London - A few examples from recent events in Europe, which has seen a spate of such attacks linked to terrorism.

LONDON: Three men drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge on the evening of June 3, before stabbing people at bars and restaurants in nearby Borough Market. Eight people died in the attack. On March 22, four people were killed when Khalid Masood, a British-born man once investigated for violent extremism, ploughed his rented SUV into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge near the parliament. A fifth victim who had fallen into the River Thames during the attack later died in hospital. STOCKHOLM: A hijacked lorry ploughed through a pedestrian zone in central Stockholm on April 7, before crashing into a department store, killing at least two people. Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said "everything points to a terrorist attack." GERMANY: A Berlin Christmas market was the target of an Islamist terrorist attack on December 19, 2016, resulting in the deaths of 12 people. Islamic State adherent Anis Amri hijacked a lorry and drove it into a crowd. The Tunisian was shot a few days later during a police stop in Milan.

FRANCE: A mentally-ill man whom Islamic State later claimed as its own drove a lorry into a crowd of people in Nice, France, as they celebrated Bastille Day on July 14, 2016. The incident left 86 dead and more than 200 injured. AUSTRIA: A 26-year-old driver ploughed his car through the city centre of Graz on June 20, 2015, killing three people and injuring 34, many of whom had been visiting cafes or shopping. A court eventually found him incompetent to stand trial. NETHERLANDS: A man attempted to ram his personal vehicle into an open-top bus carrying the Dutch royal family on April 30, 2009. He did not manage to injure any of the royals, but killed seven bystanders and injured 10.
