Berlin – German Chancellor Angela Merkel unveiled plans for a new immigration law as part of her conservative political bloc's election platform saying the programme's central goal was to ensure more jobs and to boost employment.

"Our future project for Germany means: prosperity and security for all," Merkel told a press conference in Berlin as the campaign for the September 24 election gained momentum.

The chancellor said her Christian Democrats (CDU) and their Bavarian-based Christian Social Union (CSU) allies were now proposing to introduce a new immigration law for skilled workers so as to help fill the gaps in the nation's workforce.

She went on to say that work was also the key for more investment and support for families with the CDU-CSU promising full employment by 2025 along with tax cuts.
