Is there a future in Europe’s future? Even though the unemployment rate went back among the younger age group, we are still looking at 4 million young people without a job. Many of them try to bridge the time between education and employment by doing an internship first. Yet our visualization shows that this is not a long-term solution.

• Internships have a good reputation in Slovenia: More than two thirds of them are paid and a permanent job is offered to every second intern. This might be the reason why Slovenia has the most interns, looking at the European average – almost 70% of the young people intern at least one time.
• Similarly, two thirds of Spain’s youth does an internship but only 29% are paid for it, bringing up the rear in Europe.
• The youth in Germany and Austria is challenged the most – every fifth young person there interns various times.
