Luxembourg - Unemployment in the 19-member eurozone stayed level at 8.4 per cent in May, the lowest rate since December 2008, according to figures released Monday.

The European statistics agency, Eurostat, revised down the April jobless rate by 0.1 percentage point from a previously-estimated 8.5 per cent.

In the eurozone, 13.7 million people were without a job in May, Eurostat found.

In the 28-country European Union as a whole, the unemployment rate stood at 7 per cent, which was also unchanged from the revised April data.

Youth unemployment in the eurozone fell to 16.8 per cent in May, continuing a downward trend from the previous months.

The countries with the lowest joblessness rate in April were the Czech Republic at 2.3 per cent and Germany at 3.4 per cent.

Unemployment was the highest in Greece - at 20.1 per cent in March, the latest data available - and Spain, at 15.8 per cent.
